Growing up in East Palo Alto, I knew my hometown had a negative connotation because it was once known as the murder capital of the world. I want kids to know that there are wonderful, intelligent, and creative people that come out of East Palo Alto as well. There are so many things that they have to offer the world.

I am grateful to be on a team where everyone dedicates their time solely because they believe in the mission and impact of Lauren's House. This organization encapsulates exactly why I am excited to pursue a career in the public sector.

Victoria plans the strategy and goal trajectory of Lauren's House and assists with website design. She previously built a project called Mingle, an events-based community in New York City, following her role as an investment banking analyst in the energy transition team at Credit Suisse. Lauren’s House is focused on both the emotional and academic components to learning, and I believe this is a critical method of helping students reach their best. Many childcare and after-school programs only focus on providing learning materials, but not ways to learn. By prioritizing this first stage, we make a greater impact.

Stephanie Yu

After-School Program Lead, TutorSince Sep 2023gro.esuohsnerual%40einahpets

Stephanie handles program development and coordination for Lauren's House's after-school program. She also tutors students weekly. Stephanie was previously a product manager at Disney Streaming. She holds a bachelor's degree in computer science and public policy from Pomona College. At Pomona, she co-founded First Love, a Christian campus fellowship recognized by the Southern Baptist Convention. Stephanie resides in the South Bay. In her free time, she enjoys going on neighborhood walks, decluttering, and cooking Shanghainese dishes.

Lauren's House exists to serve a very special group of students, many of whom I have had the privilege of developing meaningful relationships with. It is my honor to be a voice of affirmation for them - to work through their self-doubt and to guide them in recognizing their potential, strengths, and bright futures.

Lauren's House is a place where we can bring a community together. I enjoy volunteering here the most because of the relationships I have built with Monique, the volunteers, and students. When I put my time into a student and see them progress, it gratifies me in return.

Outside of Lauren’s House, Nava participates in Model UN/Congress conferences as a chair and delegate. She reads and plays piano and volleyball in her free time.

I love tutoring with the kids because it is a chance to witness their growth firsthand and foster confidence in their abilities. It is truly rewarding because it allows me to witness their “lightbulb moments” as they grasp new concepts and grow as students. The connection between the students and the mentors are so close-knit, and guiding them through challenges is a privilege I cherish.
