Growing up in East Palo Alto, I knew my hometown had a negative connotation because it was once known as the murder capital of the world. I want kids to know that there are wonderful, intelligent, and creative people that come out of East Palo Alto as well. There are so many things that they have to offer the world.

I am grateful to be on a team where everyone dedicates their time solely because they believe in the mission and impact of Lauren's House. This organization encapsulates exactly why I am excited to pursue a career in the public sector.

Lauren’s House is focused on both the emotional and academic components to learning, and I believe this is a critical method of helping students reach their best. Many childcare and after-school programs only focus on providing learning materials, but not ways to learn. By prioritizing this first stage, we make a greater impact.

Lauren's House exists to serve a very special group of students, many of whom I have had the privilege of developing meaningful relationships with. It is my honor to be a voice of affirmation for them - to work through their self-doubt and to guide them in recognizing their potential, strengths, and bright futures.

Lauren's House is a place where we can bring a community together. I enjoy volunteering here the most because of the relationships I have built with Monique, the volunteers, and students. When I put my time into a student and see them progress, it gratifies me in return.

I enjoy volunteering with Lauren's House because it provides me a sense of fulfillment knowing that I am making an impact, not only on the community, but also on the generation before us that will shape the future. It is incredibly rewarding to see the direct effects of my contributions and to know that I am playing a part in creating a positive change for those around me.

I love tutoring with the kids because it is a chance to witness their growth firsthand and foster confidence in their abilities. It is truly rewarding because it allows me to witness their “lightbulb moments” as they grasp new concepts and grow as students. The connection between the students and the mentors are so close-knit, and guiding them through challenges is a privilege I cherish.

I enjoy helping Bay Area students achieve their math and science goals! I was once in their shoes and received so much help from tutors. I want to do the same!
